Look guys and gals, I know acai is a berry from the rain forests of Brazil, which gives it an almost magical quality in and of itself. Acai is visualized as the picture perfect, great tasting, healthy "superfruit".

Acai buzzwords include: health, vitality, anti-aging, rich in amino acids, fiber and essential fatty acids, supporting healthy joints, healthy inflammatory processes, powerful free radical scavenger, etc.

It's true that like most fruits, acai provides a number of antioxidants and has nutritional value similar to eating an apple or some blueberries, but is it really as good as the marketing makes it sound?

Remember that, "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence."

This article is an excellent read for the inquisitive mind:

Nice find Travis, turns out I was pronouncing it wrong anyways, lol. I'll have to say reading different forums, this is one of the most talked about berry. Selling points, selling points, selling points. The berry seems to pretty much market itself.

Many of the people "in the know" of foods in general have always stated this couldn't be much different than other fruits...and it isn't.

I think another downfall for the Acai is from the research I did, unless its frozen on site and transported, it looses alot of it's nutritional value in transportation to the States. Again, that's another selling point from the 1 company that claims it freezes and transports.

I'm fine with cranberry for now.

Thanks Kyle, glad you liked it. I had to learn how to pronounce it right as well!

I think, initially, the MLM companies are really the ones who oversell and overhype this kind of stuff, then it finds it's way into the mainstream.

I'm happy with my frozen blueberry smoothies. ;)
